Building the Sun Room, Continued (January 27-28)

It took most of the day on Saturday, but we put up 7 more roof panels. Each roof panel is 3' x 12' and had a vent that needed to be built into the pre-punched hole. Here are the steps.

Tape the top and bottom of the opening with the white tape (allows water through)

Install rods that are part of the closure system. The tabs just spin around, so it takes three hands to attach.

Assemble the knob and screw it into correct set of holes on the underside. Then position the vent in place on the panel and screw in a zillion (okay, only 32) screws through panel and into a gasket that you don't see on the other side. Unfortunately, lining things up is tricky.

Attach the control arm. Of course you have to remove one of the four screws that you needed three hands to install. It did get easier after the 12th vent.

Turn the whole thing over to reattach the screw you loosened to add the control arm.

Position the screen in place and screw the cover on the bottom side to hide the zillion screws - just four more screws.

Caulk around the outside. They said to do this once the panel was in position, but reaching the far side is tough.

Apply aluminum tape to the top edge of the panel.

Apply the breathable tape to the bottom edge of the panel.
All done! Ready to put the panel in to place.

Here are 11 panels in place. It takes about 1 hour per panel to get it screwed and caulked into place. Finished about noon on 1/28.

Before placing the panel, you have to apply foam gasket to the header panel on both sides.

The black gasket gets attached to the battens - single and double. The double batten sits between the panels. To attach it, you need to reach over the 3' panel and screw into the center channel.

The single battens (lower left) attach at the top and bottom edge of the panels.

We also installed about 1/4 of the windows. They go up easy, but there is quite a bit of preassembly for each - adding the latches, weep hole covers, and gasketing.

We did manage to uncover the pool, so we can actually continue that installation now that it is covered.
