Assembling the Steel Panels and Anchoring (12/16 - 12/17/2000)

Adding the rack for the cover |

Put together two U-shaped pieces |

This part was easy, but heavy

The two U-shaped pieces where then bolted together. |

(The sunroom pieces arrived too)

Anchoring the Steel
Okay, it took three tries, but the anchors on the inaccessible wall are
done. The first time we drilled the holes for the concrete anchors, we
used a hammer drill from a local rental shop. They said the drill was
3/8in, but it was 1/2in. The concrete anchors just spun in the holes. So,
we filled these holes and drilled another set a few inches down, using the
right size bit. Had trouble with the center bracket - the anchors just
didn't want to go in. But, we moved the pool into place. Then I realized I
was off by 3/4 inch and the shelves adjacent to the deep end were uneven
(11" on one side and 13" on the other). So, we had to cut off
all the bolts (Dremel to the rescue) and move the anchors down a foot.
This moved the whole pool down a foot. This time all was good with the
world. |

Drilling the holes for the concrete anchors, with the wrong drill bit! |
 |

This time we have the right drill bit, but the wrong position. |

Removing the angle brackets and concrete anchorsl |

Finally, the angle irons in the right location. We also insulated the
pool walls on this sied with 2" fiberboard. |
 |
More Anchoring
Once all the angle irons were in place, we pushed the pool up against
them, positioned the pieces in the final location, checked for square and
level, and anchored the other three walls. |

|

Finished off the drain area too! |

Left to install! |

The drain - filled with clean gravel past the pipe, put a large
concrete stone (24" diameter) over the gravel, then topped with soil.
Need a final picture. |
